Influenza Vaccination Campaign 2016/2017

The seasonal influenza (flu) vaccine is available free of charge to all those aged 65 years and over, as well as pregnant women, healthcare workers and people in at-risk groups e.g patients with long-term health conditions such as chronic heart or respiratory disease or diabetes.

Patients who do not have a medical card or GP visit card will be liable for a small fee for the nurse visit to administer the vaccine (as per HSE guidelines).

Pneumococcal Vaccination

The pneumococcal (pneumonia) vaccine is recommended for those aged 65 years and over and those in specific at risk groups.  Those over 65 years require one dose.  Patients in an at risk group under 65 years may require a second dose 5 years after the first.

Further information about the HSE influenza and pneumococcal campaign, including a section with useful advice about dealing with flu, can be found on the National Immunisation website www.immunisation.ie.
