Cervical Screening

The surgery is registered with Cervical Check, the National Cervical screening programme, which provides free smear tests for women aged 25 years to 60 years.

A smear test is a simple procedure that only takes a few minutes and is performed at the surgery by the nurse.  The test is used to detect changes in the cells of the cervix (neck of the womb) and cervical screening can pick up early cell changes, which are common, so that they can be monitored or treated.

Routine screening every 3 or 5 years, depending on age, is recommended for women whose smear test results remain normal.
